Gallery Show: Kyoto Yokai Hakurankai @ Daizen Temple Main Chamber & Otera House

In the dark and mysterious places of Japan creep the Yokai. Beasts, twisted and bizarre. Spirits, malevolent and eternally hungering. Household objects brought to weird and mischievous life. The Kanto region of Japan celebrates the O-bon holidays from July 13th to 15th. Although Kyoto is technically in Kansai, where O-bon is mid-August, The Yokai have decided to come out and play early this year at Daizen Temple Main Chamber & Otera House. 22 artists, many who participated in last year's 猫とドラゴン展 「Cats & Dragons exhibition in Tokyo, have compiled a veritable Necronomicon of specters, demons, and weirdlings.

I'm horrified (in a good way) to have been invited to join, and so conjured up a brand new black wing-ed terror to hang with some more worldly creatures. I hope you can stop by to haunt the temple for a spell. I'd advise a daytime visitation, as the Yokai get peckish after nightfall.
