As the calendar page flips to a new year, thoughts naturally roam to new beginnings and renewed dedication to ourselves, our crafts, our lives. Each year is a phoenix. One flames out, smoldering ash and a last whiff of smoke. If we did it right, all the fuel has been consumed. The new year is just a spark in the snow that we hope to fan into a worthy conflagration.

Arts Rush Gallery’s Rising Japan• 和の競演 Exhibition promises to set your imagination and desire for beautiful art alight. Catch it between January 16th and February 4th this year, a time when warmth will be most appreciated. I’ve got a new Eto piece in the show that, although a tad wintery in its own right, hides a warm spirit beneath the frost.
